أهداف الوحدة
1. دراسة العلاقة بين اللفظ و المعنى [Semantics].
2. دراسة العلاقة بين الرموز في اللغة و معانيها [Pragmatics] و كذلك العلاقة بين اللغة و مستخدميها.
محتوى الوحدة
المحتوى يتضمن مجموعة من المحاور و هي:
I) Semantics:a) Word Meaning.
b) Meaning as use.
c) Meaning as conditions on truth.
d) Meaning as concept.
e) Language and Thought.
f) Reality.
g) Reference.
h) Cognition.
i) Mental representation.
j) The naturalist hypothesis.
k) Sense and denotation.
l) Word relationships (polysemy, etc…).
m) Sentence meaning.
II. Pragmatics:
a) Language and Communication.
b) The Speech Act.
c) The Speech Event.
d) Interactional dynamics in language interaction.
e) The Situation, etc...
