يعتبر هذا الكتاب من أروع الكتب في تعلم قواعد اللغة الإنجليزية الأساسية و هو أيضا مرجع مهم جدا لكل من يتعلم قواعد اللغة الإنجليزية و كذلك أساتذة هذه اللغة.
يحتوي الكتاب على ما يزيد عن 100 وحدة و كل وحدة توضح درس من دروس قواعد اللغة الإنجليزية بالإعتماد على أمثلة بسيطة و صور و رسومات توضيحية عكس الكتب التقليدية.
بالإضافة إلى الشرح البسيط لقواعد اللغة الإنجليزية يتضمن هذا الكتاب مجموعة من التمارين التطبيقية تحت كل درس.

Basic English Grammar: Quantifiers

للحديث عن كمية (amount/quantity) الأشياء في اللغة الإنجليزية، يمكن أن نستعمل الأعداد ببساطة، و لكن هناك أسماء لا يمكن حسابها بالأعداد مثل الماء (water) و القهوة (coffee) و الحليب (milk) ... لهذا نستعمل كلمات باللغة الإنجليزية تسمى (quantifiers) للحديث عن كمية الأشياء. بالنسبة للأسماء التي يمكن حسابها بالأعداد تسمى باللغة الإنجليزية (countable nouns) أي أسماء قابلة للعد، و الأسماء التي لا يمكن حسابها بالأعداد تسمى باللغة الإنجليزية (uncountable nouns) أي أسماء غير قابلة للعد. في الجدول أسفله تجد أمثلة لهذا النوعين من الأسماء.

I usually (get up) late on Saturday. It (be) the beginning of the week-end and I like to (relax), but on that particular Saturday two months ago I (have to) get out of bed at 6:00 AM. Terrible sounds of sirens and horns (come) from the street straight into my room. I (walk) over to the window to see what (happen). Two cars (crash) on the corner near the bakery. من الدروس الأساسية في تعلم اللغة الإنجليزية هي معرفة صياغة الجمع للاسماء لأن هناك ست (6) قواعد بسيطة لصياغة الجمعفي اللغة الإنجليزية.

قواعد صيغ الجمع في اللغة الإنجليزية

القاعدة الأولى

لصياغة جمع الأسماء في اللغة الإنجليزية نضيف حرف (s) في آخر الكلمة كما في الأمثلة التالية.

القاعدة الثالثة

إذا كانت الكلمة تنتهي بحرف ساكن (consonant) و بعده يوجد حرف (y) نقوم بحدف حرف (y) و نستبدله بحروف (ies) كما في الأمثلة التالية.

القاعدة الرابعة

إذا كانت الكلمة تنتهي بحرف متحرك (vowel) و بعده يوجد حرف (y) لا نقوم بأي تغييرات، نضيف فقط حرف (s) في آخر الكلمة كما في الأمثلة التالية.

القاعدة الخامسة

إذا كانت الكلمة تنتهي بحرف (f) أو حروف (fe) نقوم بحدف هذه الحروف و إستبدالها بحروف (ves) كما في الأمثلة التالية.

القاعدة السادسة

في الحقيقة هذه لا تعتبر قاعدة لصياغة الجمع باللغة الإنجليزية لأن هناك بعض الكلمات لا تحترم أي قاعدة في صيغة الجمع. هناك كلمات تتغير كليا في صيغة الجمع و هناك كلمات لا تتغير أبدا (المفرد مثله مثل الجمع) صيغ الجمع هذه تسمى باللغة الإنجليزية (irregular plurals) أي صيغ الجمع الغريبة و أفضل طريقة للتمكن من معرفتها هي حفظ الكلمات الأكثر تداولا. الجدول أسفله يحتوي على بعض الكلمات الأكثر تداولا.
