Youth and Smoking
Most people smoke when they are teenagers[مراهقين], but addicted [مدمنين] when
they are adults. Some people can give it up while others cannot because they
are badly addicted. Actually, the majority [أغلبية] of people smoke because they are
unaware of the negative effects [نتائج] of this phenomenon, whereas, others do know
that smoking has very disastrous [خطير] effects, but can not stop it because they are extremely addicted.
Young people usually smoke for three main reasons: To look
mature and powerful, to be like their friends and sometimes they just want to
try a cigarette and end up being addicts. Teenagers often just imitate [يقلد] what
other people around them are doing. For example, when they see some of their
relative, friends, movie starts smoke, they try it too.
On the other hand, adults smoke for different reasons.
Someone of them wrongly think that smoking relieves [يخفف] stress and helps them think
straight and may be help them solve their problems. Others smoke because they
have personal or family problems.
However, it’s is crystal clear that smoking is hazardous [خطير] for
health. It is the major cause of lung cancer and may other bad diseases.
Furthermore, smoking can also affect your financial [مادي] situation. For example,
people who smoke are obliged to spend their money buying cigarettes everyday.
In addition, smoking make you smell badly, changes the color of your teeth and
affects your skin color and complexion [بشرة].
To put an end to this phenomenon, one should avoid [تجنب] smoking
as much as possible. And, even if one is addicted, they should try cut down the
number of cigarettes he smokes a day. Besides, it is important not to socialize
with people who smoke because that may push you to try a cigarette one day and
that’s where all the problems begin.
Finally, it is also the responsibility of the government [الحكومة],
non-governmental organizations as well as association [الجمعيات] of the civil society to
sensitize people about the dangers of smoking. In this way, we can put an end
to this irresponsible behavior.
