Writing: Causes, Effects and Solutions of Rural-urban Immigration
Nowadays, many Moroccan cities have become overcrowded because of rural-urban immigration. This phenomenon is increasing every year in Morocco. It has really become an alarming issue. Many people from rural areas emigrate to the city because of unemployment. In other words, job opportunities are very scarce in villages. Therefore, people move to cities where they can find work. In addition, cities attract people owing to the availability of facilities such as: schools, institutions, hospitals, transport, running water and electricity.
Rural-urban immigration has several consequences. For example, cities become more and more crowded. In addition, people who can’t afford to buy a house or rent an apartment live in shanty towns. These neighborhoods are usually dirty and unorganized which make them stain the beautiful picture of the city. Furthermore, shanty towns are known to be a place of drug use, violence and crimes.
In brief, rural-urban immigration affects cities in several ways. Therefore, the government should fight poverty in rural-areas. Besides, they should create more job opportunities in remote areas. Moreover, they should build roads and bridges to link rural areas with urban areas. In this way, they will not only fight rural-urban immigration, but also improve the situation of isolated areas in Morocco.
